In the Beginning | Comparing Genesis 1 and John 1-Part 2

Both Genesis and the Gospel of John start out with the phrase “in the beginning.”
- Genesis 1 states: “In the beginning God [Elohim] created the heavens and the earth.
- John 1 states “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made….”
Questions:
- Compare and contrast the two passages. Try using a Venn diagram.
- Why do you think both books start the same way? What was each book’s focus?
- Based on your findings, what are the implications for us as Christians?
- Based on your findings, what are the implications for us as parents and/or educators?
Take some time to think about the questions. Maybe make a Venn diagram and jot down some ideas. Post your thoughts in the comments. I’ll share my reflections with you in the next post. 😊
